About Us

The Newburyport Preservation Trust was formed to raise public awareness and advocate for local preservation issues.

Educate
The Newburyport Preservation Trust (NPT) will reach out to residents, developers, realtors, business owners, schoolchildren and all concerned residents to answer questions about historic preservation including:

  • Why preserve?
  • Who benefits?
  • How can it be done so that everyone wins?

Inform
The NPT will be a resource for questions about historic preservation that include:

  • How do the Historical Commission, Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) work?

  • Which group do I need to contact and when?

  • Where can I find the best contractor to help me evaluate my home’s historic details and restore my home economically?

  •  How can I research my home’s architectural history?

Advocate
The NPT will speak out for historic preservation to the city government and developers:

  • We will work with all parties to sustain historic preservation while finding ways to promote responsible growth.

  • We shall monitor issues that come before the Historical Commission, Planning Board and ZBA related to Newburyport’s historic assets and give you frequent updates on our website.

The Newburyport Preservation Trust is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our members elect our board and officers annually. We are pleased to announce the election of the following board and officers for 2007
